I teach French in an A-level class at secondary school and use QTalk as a supplement to the official teaching material “Ça Bouge”. There are two points in particular that I would like to emphasize.
The first is the consistent use of the visual “entry channel” with the picture symbols. These are equally understandable for all pupils and are immediately linked to listening and speaking during the introduction. In most cases, vocabulary is built up effortlessly, simply by constantly recalling these images.
As this eliminates the detour via the written German word in the first phase, real equality of opportunity is ensured between pupils with different linguistic backgrounds. Once the vocabulary has been consolidated, writing it down is also much easier.
The second point that stands out is the easy access to the language structure. Pupils are enabled to speak complete, correct sentences right from the start. After all, the aim is to acquire a LANGUAGE as a basic means of communication between people. Speaking is the focus and is undoubtedly the great strength of QTalk. With QTalk, pupils speak complete sentences from the very first contact without having to struggle with the theory of sentence structure, etc. Language structure is acquired quite naturally by speaking these “picture sequences”.
Even the acquisition of grammatical rules often takes place without realizing it, and also consistently via well-chosen picture symbols.
I therefore consider QTalk to be a very valuable, complementary teaching aid with a focus on speaking.
